We are proud to share that Estrella Waight graduated from Asbury University in May 2020 with a degree in Exercise Science. She is a first-generation college graduate and the fourth college graduate at Common Good. In college, she served as the president of the Latino Student Alliance, was a member of the Intercultural Affairs Cabinet, and had a physical therapy internship that led to a job. We are thrilled for her!
Starting in April 2020 we began checking in on our families and providing food and necessities. Every other week we called to check-in and then we made deliveries providing the needs we discussed with each family. We have provided just over $30,000 of relief funds for our families. This would not have been possible without the incredible generosity of our supporters and the Blue Grass Community Foundation, who gave us two grants for our COVID relief efforts.
We are grateful for our partnership with God's Pantry who provides us meals to serve during our after-school program. From September 2020-January 2021 we have served our students 1,030 meals! Each day we offer a meal that provides 3/4 cups of a vegetable and fruit, 2 oz. of protein, milk, and 1 serving of whole grain. Above you see Jack enjoying mealtime!
As Matchstick Goods continues to ramp up and live into its mission we are happy to announce the return of a Common Good graduate, Izabel Gomez. Izabel joins Jason, the Director, to continue creating custom ceramic designs. As we move through 2021 we hope to bring on more student employees. Be sure to check out their Facebook page to see what new designs they are offering, like the most recent Kentucky key holder.
