Common Good's Summer Program provides a safe, supervised place for children to make lasting memories during the summer. The program serves grades K-12 and is open from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Thursday during summer break. The program relies heavily on approximately 40 weekly volunteer mentors who help lead programming and build relationships with students.
For many of our students, the summertime months lack structure. Childcare is expensive and unaffordable for the families we serve. There are limited enrichment opportunities for children and youth in North Lexington due to transportation issues, budget cuts for summer programming and program restrictions (i.e. age, gender, etc.). From the perspective of our students, summertime can be boring, monotonous, and provides little look forward to. A lackluster summer break unfortunately leaves much unsupervised free time for students to get into trouble. This is where Common Good's Summer Program comes into play! This program weaves together multiple elements: basic needs, education, recreation, spiritual formation, and leadership development.
